Law enforcement/Mental Health System in Florida when it comes to welfare checks/baker acts

since age 14 i have been in and out of the mental health system 9 times out of 10 when i am in a Mental

Health crisis i have to call Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Since i have had to call them so many

times i have become well know with the local D-1 office for H.C.S.O now when day shift is on they

sometimes are able to call for the Behavioral Health unit and they come out and there job is to try to

prevent a Baker Act/72 hour hold now when its Night Shift there nobody from the Behavioral Health unit

Available its just the regular Patrol Deputy now sometimes you will have a Deputy that picks up the

call and has Dealt with individual's With Mental health or special needs before like for example Autism

now when it comes to a call for a Juvenile who is in a Mental Health crisis they examine the situation

and get both sides of the story now because they are underage they have to be placed under a

baker act/72hour hold but when it comes to An Adult who is in a Mental Health Crisis they can check

them self's in Voluntarily the 2 Main receiving Facilities for Mental Health is 1 Gracepoint Wellness

Crisis Stabilization unit 2 is St joseph hospital Main But Unfortunately When it comes to patient Care

the 2 main psych units for baycare are not that great I'll give you and example  i was at there main

psych unit at St.joesph Behavioral health center they had a 14 year old girl who was non verbal Autism

they had her in the sensory room 247 and she was a one 2 one because they would never let her out of

that room not even to go outside to play she would get very frustrated and she would then get

aggressive and she would spit all they would do to get her to stop was drug her/shot i said something

to the charge Nurse and we both agreed that they should have tried another way to calm her down

another example would be the time i was at Northbay Recovery center in Lutz long story short  they

had a nurse there who was not nice to anyone who has been there so many times one incident would be

when she put me on the adult unit for a day  as a quote on quote scared straight thing another time was

when they had a patient who was having a sever panic attack and one of the other kids told a staff

Member the staff member looked at her and said she was fine he didn't even go over to check on her

so i took matters into my own hands and went over and tried to calm her down the same staff member

told me to go back to my seat i said no the same nurse started to  raise her voice at me i ignored her

when i was able to get her to calm down they sent us all to our rooms but none of the other kids were

mad at me they were glad i stepped in they were mad at the Nurse and the staff member for not doing

anything you see what is stupid is that because you have been there so many times they label you as a

frequent flyer  i remember one time the same nurse said to me you manipulate the system and waist

everyone's time if you were actually Suicidal you would have actually tried to kill your self this is

what i hate about staff like that when they have a staff member who use to work on the Adult unit

and they switch to Pedi's they need to change there mind set its a whole lot different on the pediatric

unit then it is on the Adult unit the care in the Mental health facilities  the care needs to be a lot better

then it is now I'm gonna use another example Nickolas Cruz if they had baker acted him when they

should have if they had then the parkland shooting wouldn't have happen that is proof that the mental

Health system in this state and in the us is broken but i have so many Ideas on how to make the system

better i have met a lot of kids who had amazing ideas and who were extremely Smart  this is why

young minds should have the courage to let There Voice Be Heard
